OpenAI Translator now available in the admin panel

The new OpenAI-powered translation tool in AI Commerce’s admin panel brings substantial speed and efficiency to localizing products and user interfaces. Translations are delivered directly in JSON format, and the tool automatically takes into account the context of tables, columns, and pages.

You can select the translation model based on your needs and budget — options include o1-mini (for testing), gpt-3.5-turbo, and gpt-4o (for broader use). Additionally, you can customize the translation style to match your company’s tone of voice guidelines and define, for example, a Finnish glossary.

How to activate the feature

The feature can be activated in the admin panel under Configuration → MyStore → OpenAI, where you set the model, instructions, and (optional) token limit. Translations only work if your OpenAI API Key is set as an environment variable.

Compared to the DeepL solution:

• OpenAI leverages broader context (table + column + page)

• Supports large text volumes without a strict 30 KB limit

• Better support for Finnish glossaries and slug structures

• Enables fully customized translation styles

“Translate the text for a nuclear physics research institute’s online store, targeting engineers as buyers. Do not translate model codes. Reply in the format {"translation":"…"}.”

This enhancement enables a scalable, high-quality, and controlled localization process directly from the admin panel — without manual copy-pasting or the need for external tools.
